CASCADE: A new icon for Rotterdam’s Coolsingel
Rotterdam has many sculptures. However, until now it was lacking a piece by one of its most internationally renowned artists, Joep van Lieshout. In 2008, Sculpture International Rotterdam (SIR) invited Atelier Van Lieshout (AVL) to develop a work of art for the city centre.
Taneda's Coolsingel Cube

Japanese production designer/filmset-designer Yohei Taneda, known as the production designer of Quentin Tarantino's Kill Bill: Volume 1, has been commissioned by Sculpture International Rotterdam (SIR) to design a temporary facade for the Monisima Cube at Kruiskade 2 in Rotterdam.
SIR Cinema at Coolsingel in October, November and December
Rotterdam has a new cinema!
Sculpture International Rotterdam (SIR) opened a temporary cinema at Rotterdam's Coolsingel. After two months of showing Alfredo Jaar’s The Ashes of Pasolini, the SIR cinema now offers a new programme with a unique collection of artists’ productions for November and December dealing with the contemporary city and the influences of large-scale urban development on residents.

Erasmus moves forward two metres
From the press release, February 2009 - The bronze statue of Erasmus, which Hendrick de Keyser created in 1620, will shortly be moved two metres forward on its pedestal on the Grotekerkplein, ahead of the renovation of the entire square.

The eighth Museumnight will be organised on Saturday 7 March 2009.
Santa Claus standing
28 november: Santa Claus finds a Permanent New Home
After many years at the centre of thorny debate, Santa Claus, the renowned sculpture by Paul McCarthy, is being relocated to a definitive new home on the Eendrachtsplein, having spent three years in asylum in Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen’s courtyard and a brief stop-over on the pavement alongside the museum entrance. Santa Claus will be transported to his permanent new home on Friday, 28 November 2008, accompanied in parade by the Binnenweg Association (Vereniging De Binnenweg, which represents retailers on one of the country’s longest shopping streets), the new guardian angels of Santa Claus.
